A project more than a year in the making by American-Statesman journalists, the documentary "Existing as transgender in Texas," spotlights the stories of transgender and nonbinary teens and their families in a state that is weighing removing access to gender-affirming care for them.

A transgender girl whose family fled Austin for Washington state takes a spin in the sun in her new backyard in Seattle.

Theirs are stories of living in fear, but also of discovering hope through one another.
