The Contemporary Austin is inviting guests to explore themes of colonialism, land and place, mythology and more through the works of five multimedia artists this fall.

According to a press release, the new exhibition "This Land" features "artists from regions across the Americas whose works address topics including histories and mythologies of place, migration and displacement, and exploitations of labor and resources while encouraging reflection on how the past, present, and future are intertwined."

Here's everything you need to know:

When and where is it?

The exhibition will take over the Jones Center on 700 Congress Ave. from Sept. 28 to Jan. 28.

Who are the artists?

"This Land" serves as the Austin debut for artists Vivian Caccuri, Raven Chacon, Minerva Cuevas, Danielle Dean and Jamilah Sabur.

What will each artist contribute?

Caccuri created a sound installation called "Bass Mass" as well as tapestries following a mosquito as it outlines colonial history. Chacon will present a "multi-instrumental composition and performance, 'Tremble Staves,' a work reflecting on histories of place and the sanctity and scarcity of water."

This experience will occur in two ways: as a video installation of a 2019 performance and as a site-specific live version on the shoreline of the Laguna Gloria, which sits at 3809 West 35th St. The performance is in partnership with Texas Performing Arts, Fusebox, and UT Austin's Butler School of Music percussion ensemble.

Cuevas will display sculptural installations about the petroleum industry's harmful impact on the environment. Dean crafted a five-channel video installation called "Amazon," which centers on human capital exploitation. Finally, guests can view Sabur's offshore mining film "The Harvesters."
